Physical Description: Unkempt brown hair is usually kept out of his brown eyes by a flowing bandana-like scroll adorned with unusual runes.  Physically, Savarin is pretty average, he’s not particularly thin or muscular; he didn’t exercise all that much before his death, but he wasn’t unhealthy.  When not wearing his shinigami uniform, Savarin tends to wear a button down shirt and jeans.  While normally hidden under clothes, much of his body covered with tattoos from various occult or mythological cultures.  His posture is not great, with a slouch that comes from years of pouring over books with not quite enough light.

Overall Personality: In life, Savarin was a man of science and mysticism; and that hasn’t changed with his death.  Savarin fancies himself a student and teacher, eager to learn new things and to educate others.  Inquisitive and questioning by nature, he is particularly curious, sometimes to his detriment.  He gets annoyed by people who are willfully ignorant or show no interest in personal progress.  That being said, he would much rather give a lecture than throw down, but if it comes to that Savarin tends to try and keep his distance and pound the enemy with kido.  

For much of his life, Savarin was a teacher and an academic; and that is pretty heavily reflected in his leadership and teamwork styles.  Rather than micromanaging, he would rather give them what they need to solve the problem.

History:

• Savarin Alexander was the only child of a nice couple that lived in Washington State in the US. His father was an Episcopal priest with a mid-sized congregation, and his mother was a nuclear physicist at PNNL.  From early childhood, Savarin’s life was a combination of faith and science, and he spent many hours listening to his loving parents debate about the nature of the universe.
  
• August 21, 2003: Savarin starts attending University of Washington with a full scholarship due to high academics and extracurricular activities.
  
• May 16, 2009: Savarin obtains a Masters degree in Comparative Religion and a Masters degree in Physics from University of Washington with a few published papers under his cap.
  
• June 20, 2009: Savarin is contacted by the University of Oxford; some of his papers earned the interest of someone on the board.  He is offered a scholarship to pursue a PhD and his research into mysticism and the occult.
  
• October 10, 2009: Savarin starts his PhD in philosophy at University of Oxford; during this time he obtains a particularly large grant from an unknown benefactor to pursue research on the afterlife..
  
• October 1, 2014 - December 15, 2014: During a visit to Japan, Savarin met with a man who claimed to be able to see ghosts.  He told Savarin of his theories about the ‘cycle of rebirth’ and ‘soul society.’  As he performed additional research, he found additional evidence and developed his own set of theories and memories with regards to the cycle.  He even meets another human in person who could produce tiny balls of visible energy and was a bit of a minor celebrity in the area.
  
• 2015 - 2016: Savarin finishes his initial dissertation and obtains his PhD, and as a postdoc, begins development of a ritual that would theoretically allow him to retain his memories after death. Over the next few years, Savarin traveled the world, developing a process and gathered materials for it.
  
• December 31, 2016 - January 1, 2017: Savarin performs the ritual, it was not entirely clear if it was successful or not.
  
• November 19, 2017: On a subsequent visit to Japan, Savarin is killed as part of collateral damage in a fight between shinigami and hollow (he saw neither).  Near instant soul burial from the shinigami after the hollow is vanquished.
  
• April 2, 2018: Savarin wakes up in Soul Society with all of his memories intact. Apparently the ritual had been successful, he was found quickly by shinigami due to a higher reiatsu than normal souls.  In the academy he shows a particular knack for kidō.
  
• May 15, 2020: Completes training in the shinigami academy and is assigned to his squad.

Shikai Ability:  
When closed, the book quietly hovers near Savarin and will attempt to (at 1/2 Savarin's speed stat) block attacks with its steel bindings.

When open, the book hovers near Savarin with flapping pages and thousands of overlapping voices speaking gibberish.  On the bright side, most kido incantations are gibberish.  When using his shikai in this way, Savarin may cast kido as if it was fully incanted without speaking the incantation himself.  Alternatively, he may fully incant a spell along with the book in order to cast it with half the normal drain to his reiatsu pool.
