trying out for Captain of squad 2

Captain Ikagi was never really one to be late.  The Captain had shown up almost an hour early.  Between his punctuality and the fact that he was the embodiment of what he previewed to be the perfect shinigami, a book in his hand on the latest theories of Kido could be supplemented by a glass of tea.   As it was today, the man had known about his promotion for weeks, and it was just a matter of finding someone who could fill the cracks while he was gone.  

He was wearing his personal robes, which hid his entire body short of his eyes.  It was more for the factor of intimidation than anything else.    He waited patiently, the captain of the fifth and fourth showing up a bit later.  All of this for some hotshot with a bankai.  This is what set Ikagi apart from other Captains, he did his job diligently and completely.  So there would be no real test that didn't inhabit the merits of being a Captain of the Gotei.  

Eventually, when time had come up he walked to the chairs, eyes barely even looking over Travin as he rolled his shoulders and handed the shinigami a stack of paperwork.  It included around two-hundred mission reports, Kido research for appraisal and a few pieces of blank paper.  "Finish all of it by the time I finish my pot of tea with the other Captains."  Ikagi said from behind his mask, and went back to Akira and Nanao.

Yes, combat was the calling of a Captain, but the second division was as much about intelligent paperwork as any bureaucratic organization could be.  Though it could also have just been hazing, Ikagi would never let anyone know the difference.

If Ikagi had emotions, behind the mask, they didn't show much. Akira and Nanao on the other hand, were chuckling. Clearly there being a joke somewhere that Travin would have missed for one reason or another. Ikagi was patient as he read through all the paperwork to make sure it was all signed off on and then looked over the reports in question. It was meticulous, for what reason probably wasn't relevant to the task at hand. Nanao made a comment about the sun Kido, and a mocking joke at the second divisions' expense. Akira didn't really seem to care.

"Two Bakudo, three Hado spells. Above thirty, and one of each any level without incantation." Ikagi then said as the other two captains decided to finally pay attention. This was the meat and potatoes of the Kido squad, so it seemed like the masked captain would probably weigh this a little harder than residual paperwork.

It wasn't much of a test, Ikagi was simply trying to get through formalities and but a drain on Travin before having to actually see his bankai. Ikagi wasn't being mean he just understood that you wouldn't always be able to have every tool available to you in combat. That or if you got into trouble while you were tired, there was very little one could do.

Akira laughed at the comment. "He thinks he can hurt us." The other captain stated as Nanao gave him a look. Ikagi didn't seem to care about what Travin said, it was the benefit of wearing a mask. Sometimes you really didn't have to answer one way or another. Ikagi simply made a gesture and his zanpakutou was replaced by a large staff that he set into the ground in front of himself.

Akira and Nanao, on the other hand, stepped back, if only to pretend like an Immature Bankai meant more than having one. They had each been through it before and there was always a chance the person being tested did something stupid or annoyed the spirit. So out of some thought, Nanao pointed at the sand. "Be careful that doesn't turn to glass with your feet in it." She stated. She had seen a number of self inflicted wounds from shinigami not understand their own zanpakutou.

Ikagi then waited, more or less so that he could get to the next phase of the test, assuming that Travin didn't burn himself up in the process.

Akira had found sunglasses, somewhere. He was obviously wearing them in a frivilous and mocking attitude as Ikagi simply lifted a hand to put a barrier in front of his shikai. The final captain had simply vanished about twenty feet back, still sipping her tea, without a care in the world. "Children. They always believe they're so powerful with the limits off." Akira was almost rolling around laughing at this point

Ikagi didn't really seem to care what the other captain said, he was there to do a job, so he was going to do it. Without any sounds a set of pillars surrounded Travin and the scorching heat did little to protect him from the binding that emitted from the staff of Ikagi's shikai. It wasn't a powerful binding, it just wasn't kido centric at all. Ikagi carried four very potent spells in his shikai, a one of each binding. A binding that required raw strength to break, one that required speed to avoid, endurance to last, and finally one that required reiatsu to push through. He was simply starting with what he knew to be Travin's weakness, he hadn't put his full power into the binding.

It was simply another test, Ikagi was checking all the angles. He was looking for ingenuity, something that was a definite need should something else arise. So, now Travin had to find a way to use strength to get him out.

Akira yawned as Travin simply bashed at the barrier with his sword. "Isn't the Kido division supposed to be smart." He said looking towards Nanao, who was still sipping tea, she didn't seem to care about Akira's comments. She felt as though they were a burden. Ikagi understood the logic behind Travin's attack, it would be a good direct strength test. Though the choice of an overhead slash was a bad one if you wanted an entirely strength based swing, considering that gravity would reinforce momentum without putting extra power into it.

The barrier did crack, though only slightly, but it seemed to be enough for Ikagi on that front. In reality, if he had tried to hold Travin inside, it would probably have taken him a while to get out. That wasn't the test, and Ikagi had no intention of making any shinigami with Bankai feel inadequate.

Ikagi then decided to grab his staff and go to work. He put a single finger over his lips, or where they would be beneath the mask. "Ban...kai." He stated as the staff's head separated the orbs and then enlarged to surround him. Each one spread out an equidistant of about twenty meters as the large orbs began to slowly circle around the captain.

With a quick shunpo, he appeared in front of Travin and pulled out a small dagger to strike at Travin's midsection with as one of the orbs, the one to Travin's back right began to hum with power before firing a burst of energy towards the young shinigami.

The chains seemed to have their damage absorbed by Ikagi's robes, which were actually a type of armor. Though most hadn't lived long enough to know that. The attack, which Ikagi had fired was from the orb that governed force. While the attack wouldn't hurt, it sent Travin flying, and dragged Ikagi, connected by Travin's chains with him. The captain didn't seem to be trying, but more trying to see how Travin thought in combat.

He took the tiny knife and with a pinpoint amount of reiatsu he began cutting through the chains as he pointed out to Travin. "Upper right, lower left." He stated as the orbs in those locations fired at him, once again the force orb went off, and should Travin feel like dodging it the weakening orb would sap a bit of reiatsu from him.

Ikagi's bankai wasn't for instantly executing his opponents, it was designed to control multiple people on the battlefield. Akira and Nanao hadn't seen him use it in a long time. They were enjoying the show to be sure. Though Nanao got annoyed with her lack of tea and wanted to get another pot.

Ikagi waited for Travin to choose whether to release him and get hit by both, get hit by one, or simply come up with something else. Though Ikagi had barely even begun to push his reiatsu or Bankai. It would have been very apparent he was being promoted just like Travin, for good reason.

Ikagi took the brunt of the flame head on, though he was mumbling under his mask as he did so to erect a small barrier. He then slowly fell back to the ground as his bankai continued to circle as Travin ran out of gas. The captain slowly landed, a bit more graciously than the winged Travin.

Akira was the first one to stand up and clap. "I like him!" The mocking captain stated as Nanao stood up and Ikagi let his bankai revert and re-sheath his zanpakutou. The captains nodded to each other before Ikagi looked back at Travin.

"Good luck, Captain." Ikagi stated and headed towards Central. Akagi and Nanao stayed behind to brief Travin on everything captain related and meeting schedules, as well as a laundry list of things to do. Akira still enjoying hazing the new kid as they didn't seem to even wait for Travin to recover.

Nanao spoke up last. "Sorry, Ikagi had a promotion to get to as well." She said with a polite bow.
