How to be bored in your Spare Time [Missions D Janus]

Janus, was holding her head as she walked though the open area of the shopping area she was in.  She was there to buy a few choice ingredients and tea from one of the shops but she had no clue it was going to be this busy.  Which meant futures, and lots of them crashing down on her mind like a giant wave she couldn't escape from.  To sum it up in a single word, it sucked.

She heard a small sound, her divination picking up a child that was crying.  Janus blinked and looked around to follow the future to the small thing that was sitting on a bench.  No, it was floating above the bench.  This wasn't her day, as far as she could tell and she was more than willing to say that it wasn't.

The child, looked up to her with big sad eyes and Janus searched the futures for what was inevitably, his long sad story. She grunted as the futures ate at her as she tried to follow only that specific story and ignore all the people around. It didn't work well, but she got the idea, it wanted to go somewhere else. The moment it started to speak she simply looked at him and stated. "Come along, I can take you there." As if it were the most normal thing in the world to jump conversations.

A good ten minutes later, past the major hustle and bustle, Janus had gone three blocks west to the small playground that had quite a nice view of her small hotel up on the cliff. The young soul bid the woman farewell, and simply vanished in front of her. Feeling like her good deed for the day had been done, Janus decided to wander back towards civilization, headache, and the potential gathering of new spices for her place.

Janus was wondering around on her way back towards the shopping center when she passed by a local ramen delivery place. The old man who ran it, who Janus couldn't remember the name of for the life of her was currently looking out over the people from behind the small flaps of the stand outs. He seemed distraught for whatever reason and so Janus did what Janus always did. She decided to search the futures for what was bothering him and came out learning that his delivery man was sick.

Against her better judgement, and her lack of time, combined with leaving the idiot Yuki in charge of the hotel for the moment she decided to make a small trek inside. The place was small, housing only about fifteen seats total, a counter and four small tables. The man looked and gave her a wave behind old wise eyes. She gave him a nod before walking up and shifting. "Need help?" She asked politely as she smiled. The old man, who had seen Janus answer questions he was going to ask before he did nodded and gave her a run down that Janus had already heard to some extent and she pulled out her phone. "What was that first address?" She asked picking up the box and heading out before he answered, typing it in from the future she had done so.

Janus, decided that running was probably not the best idea if only because it could damage the food. Janus, being something of a Chef herself, decided that was a bad option and made her way down the street for a half mile at a quick walk and then turned to her left. She eyed the apartment complex one more intersection down the street as her phone chimed in Italian, unlike her normal Japanese speech that her destination was ahead and on the right.

She looked at the number again as she continued walking. It was turning out to be a very odd and interesting day. She had intended to buy a few spices and tea, and now she was pretty sure she was going to spend the rest of the time doing small favors like this, for no reason than to get them all done. She made her way up the stairs and knocked on the door with a solid shave and a haircut.

She politely mentioned the old man's ramen shop and dropped off the order before starting a walk back to the place and texting her employee to keep watching the hotel as she may be a while yet.

Janus made her way back to the man's shop at a slower pace. She had divined that she would arrive right when he had the next order was ready so rushing wasn't something that she was going to have herself do for the moment. The wind was still and the sun beat down as she looked up, summer was on its way but not hot enough to push through yet. Her jacket, which hadn't been fed in some time billowed as a single breeze went through and the air settled again as she walked into the ramen shop.

She grabbed the next order and this time she looked at the old man and asked him politely. "Address?" Which made him look confused at first but he managed to give her the address and she took off after inputting it on her phone. She was trying to avoid her divination, mainly because of the number of people on the street, and she didn't feel like a headache.

Janus listened to her phone, spitting Italian as she turned up the rock song that was currently playing by some german singer she couldn't understand but didn't really mind. She was in it for the music and that was all it was, just like when she ate, it was for the food, not so much for herself. Janus then answered a text from Yuki, who stated there was a reservation for a month from now, which was pretty different for Janus.

Customers came to Janus' place they usually just happened on the small hotel and hot springs, it wasn't very advertised for lack of better terms. The only real reservations she had gotten before were usually from returning customers so she asked what their name was in a quick text, which she forgot to type in Japanese and had to retype promptly following.

Yuki responded back as Janus got a few more blocks away and looked at her phone, a small office building in front of her which she entered and asked the reception lady for the name of the customer. The lady took the ramen from Janus and sent her on her way. The young woman then began wandering back to the old man's shop, reading Yuki's response.

Janus finished reading the name that Yuki sent her and to be honest, she didn't recognize it. A month wasn't something she could divine, which was limited more to a few hours maximum if there was no one around. Tree fall in a forest idea, she sighed to herself and stretched her arms as she wandered back towards the ramen shop, pining the future and narrowly avoiding a biker who came around the corner too fast.

She still got slightly clipped on her arm, but at least it wasn't an accident, she wondered if it was going to bruise. Janus then made her way back inside the ramen shop and waited for the old man to finish the current order and set it out, she had been about three minutes early but she was more concerned with the injury to her arm. It was red, but nothing too bad and she still retained motion.

The old man asked Janus if she was alright and she explained before grabbing the box with the order and asking for the address. She wasn't sure how many more of these she could do for him so she headed out.

Janus listened to her music and the annoying voice that told her to continue up the street for two more blocks and then make a right. She was delivering to another small business, and she guessed it was a normal thing in this area. She looked up at the cliff just over the park towards her place and sighed. It was a very odd day as far as she could tell. After that, she turned the corner and headed down towards the offices.

This time, it happened to be a small manga shop that had placed the order. She went up the front desk and asked the person on duty about it and the order was taken from her and she was given a small tip, which she didn't really need but she didn't want to say no either. Janus placed the tip in the pockets of her coat and wandered out of the place after looking around at the manga for a minute or two to see if the new Jump had come out yet, forgetting the day of the week like a moron. She wished her divination could get her that far ahead but it couldn't so she headed back towards the ramen shop. She rubbed at her arm a few times to make sure it wasn't swelling and it was still tender but the damage seemed minimal.

Janus was listening to some ACDC on her way back to the ramen shop as she let out a long and rather codfish like yawn. She pinched the bridge of her nose and shifted as she kept walking and read her email. Nothing interesting, the usual Junk mail and a few things from some games she played recreationally at best. There were a few recipies she saved from a quick internet search or two for ideas she had as she made her way back to the ramen shop. She was hoping it was starting to wind down off the lunch rush and she could possibly take off soon.

The problem with wanting to be a hero was that small things made you as much of a hero as saving the world. She made her way into the store and nodded at the old man who was finishing up what Janus hoped was the last order and grabbed it. She asked for the address and handed the old man the tip she had gotten previously before heading out.

Janus typed the address in her phone and was relieved when it was only three blocks away. Another apartment building and it was on the way back towards the mall too which actually helped her in the grand scheme of things if she happened to go by the tea shop she could actually get some of her original task done. She shifted her weight as she walked along, letting the order get carried in her undamaged arm as the throbbing was still slight but not as bad in her other arm.

She made her way down the street and then around a larger office building before heading down a side street to an apartment complex. It was older, but it looked in good repair so Janus simply headed up the stairs to the correct door and yawned as she rang the doorbell. A few minutes later, she had made the delivery and was back on course for her spices and tea for the hotel. It had only taken the better part of two hours and getting sideswiped quite a bit.

Janus was about halfway to the mall again when she noticed that she was passing the park. Some group of people had a picnic there and had decided that it was alright to make a total mess and leave it all behind. Her divination went wild as she got annoyed and tried to decide if she was going to help out or move on. Though, being Janus she also lost the fight to heroism, which was definitely going to get her killed at some point.

Janus shifted and walked over to the garbage can and grabbed the entire thing. It was plastic so it wasn't heavy but she then moved it closer to where the group of people had their picnic, it and then proceeded to spend a few minutes sorting out the recyclables before she started at one side of what she presumed had been a towel they had picked up upon leaving and grabbed some of the trash to toss into the can.

Janus continued as she played the garbage truck song from Scott Pilgrim vs the World on her headphones.  She was pretty sure both her head and her coat were mad at her sudden need to clean the place for whatever reason.  She threw away the non-wet non-grimey things first, because that way she could keep it clean as long as she could.  She moved on to the left over food and some of the other less savory articles as she nearly gagged at one point she picked up what she thought was a peel that someone had stepped on.  

Janus wanted to scream at a few points, but she managed to push it away after watching herself do it with her divination and then finished cleaning up the disposed of picnic as she gagged again.  She finished by taking the recyclables back to the other can that she hadn't moved at the start and quickly managed to finish up the entire task by moving the original can to its position.  Janus then headed towards the restroom and washed as much as she could with roughly a half a cup of soap before starting to head towards the mall again.

Janus left the park in a huff, for obvious reasons. She made her way down the street and passed by a small local cemetary, now Janus wasn't entirely the best at determining spirits versus normal people so she had only headed in when her divination pinged a really nice piece of jewelry from somewhere in her hand in a few minutes. So, she decided to investigate without future adeu.

She made her way past the gates, with her hands in her pockets as her headphones continued to blast music, this time she was listening to Wrong Side of Heaven by Death Punch. She made her way around looking around before she spotted an open grave that had been dug up. She looked for a groundskeeper but there was nothing.

Now, discression being the better part of heroic valor. Janus stopped to take stock as she checked the futures and found that she could potentially get into a fight if she said something wrong. Who did she say something wrong too? She thought before seeing the two large men with the shovel heading back towards the grave. She decided that was her queue to make like a banana and ran to hide near the small chapel nearby. She used her phone to take a few pictures and dialed the police, because that was a much better solution than fighting someone.

Twenty minutes later she watched the two criminals get put into a car as an officer asked her a few questions and she gave him copies of the pictures. The officers left with the criminals and she noticed something shinning on the ground. A older woman, a ghost if Janus was guessing correctly appeared and smiled at her before pointing at a recently dug up grave. Janus offered the small jewelry piece to the grave, and then attempted, once again, to continue with her day.

Janus was nearing the mall again as an old fortune teller on the street looked around before looking at Janus. She wasn't used to having people talk to her, being European and not really caring about what was going on she barely noticed when he barked some words at her until he slid into her vision. The man made some comment about the spirits being needy and that she could lead him to where he needed to go if she only believed.

To be honest, Janus wasn't really paying attention the man but he seemed very very astute to her helping him in some form or fashion. She looked at the futures and nothing really interesting came up. So she decided to ask him what he was looking for. The man wanted to find a spirit. Now Janus, didn't know any spirits herself but she could find ghosts pretty easily using her powers so she decided he probably wouldn't know the difference and nodded to him.

Janus took the fortune teller a block down the road to a small area of flowers and a shrine, then past to the cemetary that she had recently gotten the two criminals arrested at. The fortune teller told her that the spirits were strong in this place and she simply looked at him blankly before looking at the two ghosts who were floating around, happy that someone had taken the time to rid them of the criminals.

The man thanked Janus and began doing some kind of weird shrine thing that Janus didn't understand nor want to, and she watched for a few moments. She was pretty sure there was some kind of oil, a dance and some tai chi or maybe samba, but in the end the man looked happy and the ghost looked so as well, though still from getting rid of the criminals. Janus shifted again, or maybe they had felt better because of whatever the fortune teller did, whatever. With that, Janus started walking back towards the mall and she heard a few words of warning from the presumed snake oil salesman behind her.

Janus was almost by the mall when her divination picked up another ghost. She said something about the fact that she wanted to be left alone, but the ghost didn't seem to care. In fact, it followed her to the mall and kept talking, and talking, and talking until the annoyed Janus simply screamed at it asking it what the hell it wanted.

The ghost, was then much more straightforward, he was wearing an old suit and stated he still had things to do in this life before he passed. He asked Janus to head back to the apartment complex she had passed and told her that if she didn't, he would resume being annoying so Janus was basically strong armed into doing as he asked. She begrudgingly trudged back to the complex, and up three flights of stairs, which the lovely ghost had failed to mention. Then she had to use a hair pin to pick a lock all to get inside his apartment. His instructions after, were to find an envelope.

Janus sighed and eventually managed to mess up enough of the room to find a sealed envelope below the man's desk that was slightly hidden by one of his furniture pieces. If she had to guess someone had cleaned the place not knowing that the man had passed she grabbed the small item and looked at the ghost.

He told some story that she didn't listen too before noting that she had to mail the letter. She grabbed a pen and asked the ghost for the address again and wrote it down, now she had to head to post office box so that she could get the insufferable man away for her by any way she could. Janus made her way downstairs and headed towards the mall, knowing that there was a post box near it for gifts people would pick up. She made it back and slid the envelope into the mail box before deciding that there was too much weird stuff to be going on for all this to be a coincidence. She had barely managed to notice the annoying voice and ghost had all but vanished as she headed towards the spice shop.

Janus was halfway, HALFWAY into the door of the tea shop when a small ghost came up on her divination. "You have to be kidding me." The Diviner stated as she looked around for the soda dispenser that marked where the ghost was. Sure enough, there was a small girl who immediately ran over to Janus and asked Janus where her parents were. Now, Janus wasn't the most knowledgable about ghost and things of that nature. Aside from trans-dimensional beings, she didn't really understand most of the how it works part of the train.

So, Janus listened to the little girl tell her story about how her parents left, possibly not knowing that she had passed and she just felt bad. The arm throb wasn't helping. She didn't really know what to do or say so she just sat down on the curb and told the little girl that she had passed. Which of course, lead to spending another twenty minutes talking about how she was going to be fine and there were other dimensions she might end up in.

Janus spent the better part of time explaining what she knew from being able to see ghosts, and trans-dimensional beings. She told the little girl that maybe the little girl could come back as a super-powered hero and save other people. Which the little girl then went on to discuss her more favorite parts about magical girls and Janus simply was nice enough to listen, a novel power in the day and age. Not everyone could do it but Janus always thought she did it well.

A few minutes later the young girl had vanished, like she had never been there to begin with. Which, she may very well have not been, after all a few people were looking at Janus like she was crazy, had she been talking to herself the entire time? From what she knew, trans-dimensionals were the only way to cross borders as she knew them so maybe most of what had happened today had been all in her head. She looked at her phone and realized it was almost sixteen hundred before heading back around the corner to the tea shop.
