Technique System

Techniques are abilities that fall under skills, but aren't technically Kidō, which are unique only to Shinigami. These are unique to all races and each race has their own unique techniques that are discussed more in depth on the Race's page.

All techniques cost Reiatsu directly from the Reiatsu pool. Each technique is broken down into letter ranks that determine their power level.

You must train OR buy ALL techniques
Beginner: 100 Kan/ 2 posts
Novice: 150 Kan/ 4 posts
Adept: 250 Kan/ 5 posts
Expert: 500 Kan/ 6 posts
Master: 1000 Kan/ 8 posts
Grand Master: 2000 Kan/ 10 posts

Reiatsu Expenditure:
Beginner - 20 Reiatsu/10 upkeep
Novice - 50 Reiatsu/25 upkeep
Adept - 70 Reiatsu/35 upkeep
Expert - 100 Reiatsu/50 upkeep
Master - 250 Reiatsu/75 upkeep
Grand Master - 500 Reiatsu/150 upkeep

Multipliers:
Based on the skill of the technique being used, a multiplier is applied to it. Below are the skills and their related multiplier.

Bukijutsu - Strength

Hakuda - Endurance

Hoho - Speed

Reiatsu - Reiatsu

The multipliers per level of technique are below:

Beginner = Stat x 1.25
Novice = Stat x 1.5
Adept = Stat x 1.75
Expert = Stat x 2
Master = Stat x 2.5
Grand Master = Stat x 3

[NOTE: Techniques marked "N/A" Scale from the Reiatsu stat.]

Kidō System

Kidō (鬼道, Demon/Spirit Way; Viz "Demon Arts") is a form of Shinigami combat based on advanced spells. These spells are produced with strong Reiryoku and fall into three categories: Hadō for direct attacks, Bakudō for battle support, and Kaidō for Healing.

Most spells are graded on a scale from 1 to 99, spells of the latter being the most powerful and the most difficult to perform. To use Kidō, a Shinigami must recite the specific incantation for the spell, which is often long and requires a few seconds to speak.

Here on SD, we have an alphabetical system as opposed to a numerical one, so all canon Kidō are given a letter rank as opposed to a number. The existing Kidō have been grouped into ranks using the following system.

Beginner: 1-30
Novice: 31-45
Adept: 46-60
Expert: 61-75
Master: 76-90
Grand Master: 91-99+

The power of a spell relies on the power of the user, as even a low-level spell can be utterly devastating when utilized by a high-class Shinigami.

Here on SD, the power of Kidō, much like the power of other Techniques, is based solely on your stats. As such, when using a Kidō, one must look to their Reiatsu stat [NOT their pool]. This will determine the overall power behind the spell, as each rank has a different multiplier.

Beginner = Reiatsu x 1.25
Novice = Reiatsu x 1.5
Adept = Reiatsu x 1.75
Expert = Reiatsu x 2
Master = Reiatsu x 2.5
Grand Master = Reiatsu x 3

Kidō oftentimes have effects that will last for longer than one post. In order to address those effects, such as paralysis ect… we have decided upon the following durations for Kido/technique effects that are limited by rank.

Beginner: 1 post
Novice: 2 posts
Adept: 3 posts
Expert: 4 posts
Master: 5 posts
Grand Master: 6 posts

[NOTE: The POWER of a Kidō must be GREATER THAN the ENDURANCE of your target for the effect to activate.]

There are three main types of Kidō: binding spells, destruction spells, and healing spells.

    Bakudō (縛道, Way of Binding; Viz "Binding Spell"): Supplementary spells which can immobilize an enemy or have an effect besides a direct strike. They may seem subtle, but these spells can give their users a tactical advantage when used properly. These are a broad category of defensive spells which block/repel attacks or freezes enemies in place. This class of spells include Kidō Barriers & Seals.
  • Barriers (結界, Kekkai): Focused spiritual energy formed into a solid form of energy. This energy can take on many shapes or colors as determined by the user. Barriers are protective in nature, and can be as simple as a barrier only protecting one direction or encompassing all sides of an area. Barriers can be used for containment, and some barriers can be used offensively. Barriers can mask spiritual pressure and can make one spiritually and physically invisible. The strength of a barrier is dependent upon the power of the user. Weak barriers are easily breakable, while strong ones can withstand much more punishment. Certain barriers can be placed beforehand and activated later, while others require certain artifacts and time to activate.

  • Seals (封, Fū): Somewhat similar to barriers, but far more powerful and require far more preparation to create. Seals can only be used by those of sufficient spiritual power, and are meant to hold the most powerful and/or dangerous artifacts or beings. Seals are usually hard to break.

Hadō (破道, Way of Destruction; Viz "Path of Destruction"): Offensive spells which inflict direct damage to the enemy. Their effectiveness differs depending on the user. It is said the effectiveness of the higher-ranked spells are beyond imagination.

  • Gisei Hadō (犠牲破道, Sacrificial Way of Destruction; Viz "Sacrifice Path of Destruction"): A particular offensive spell like Ittō Kasō that requires the user to sacrifice a certain portion of themselves in order to use it.

Kaidō (回道, Turn Way): Also known as healing Kidō (治療用鬼道, chiryōyō kidō; Viz "Healing Spiritual Arts"). As the user holds his/her hands above the patient's wounds, his/her palms glow with green spiritual energy to facilitate healing. When one heals with regular healing kidō, they perform Reiatsu restoration first. By doing so, one can attempt to recover the physical body using the patient's restored Reiatsu and the healer's external Reiatsu. Therefore, restoring the Reiatsu when the physical body is in a fully healed state is no trouble at all. [When doing Reiatsu healing, one must give Reiatsu from THEIR OWN POOL to the target.]
